Steep prices in Montgomery County stop some prospective buyers in their tracks, especially if they are looking for a place with room for a family.

The median sales price for a home in Montgomery County was $440,000 in June, according to Bright MLS, but prices are steeper for residences closer to the District, downtown Bethesda and a Metro station. Buyers willing to look at condos may find a more affordable option, but don’t forget to include the condo fees in your monthly housing budget.

For example, the condo at 11909 Parklawn Dr., Unit #101 in Rockville is priced at $249,900, significantly below the median sales price in the area. Monthly condo fees add $683 per month and annual property taxes are $2,357. The condo fee includes all utilities, such as the gas, water and electric bills, along with maintenance of the grounds and a master insurance policy.

The pet-friendly condo community has a swimming pool and parking for residents and visitors. The location is about one mile from the White Flint Metro station for Red Line service and one mile from shops and restaurants on Rockville Pike.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom condo has 1,200 square feet of living space. The condo has been renovated with new carpet, fresh paint and a new kitchen with stainless-steel appliances. The unit has a washer and dryer and a walk-in closet in the master bedroom.

Assigned schools are Garrett Park Elementary, Tilden Middle and Walter Johnson High.
