Coffee shop removes novelty bathroom sign over accusations of promoting 'rape culture'

The owners of a new coffee shop in Brooklyn were forced to remove a novelty restroom sign after patrons complained it was promoting “rape culture.” The Clever Blend, which opened in April, recently came under fire for posting a sign on the door of its co-ed bathroom, which depicts a man — in stick-figure form — leering over the top of an adjacent bathroom stall to supposedly peep at a similarly stick-figured woman. THE TRUTH ABOUT INSTANT COFFEE While the shop's owners reportedly saw their sign as humorous, many of their customers weren’t amused by the “joke.” Critics quickly took to Instagram, Twitter and Yelp to accuse Clever Blend of promoting everything from sexism, violence against women and rape culture — accusations that the shop’s co-owner, Luca Tesconi, initially dismissed as overreactions to “an innocent stupid sign ,” reports DNAInfo New York. “There was hate yelps and hate Instagram," explained Tesconi to Pix 11. "There were threats against my family and me...

Where to buy: combo steam shower, whirlpool jet tub, shower combo kit? - Beyond.ca

Image
Ah good, that makes it clearer. Okay a few things. Of course, that 3D concept shows a steam shower that would be quite a bit more than the "starting at $8,000" type of custom steam shower . Plus those added "wish lists" of yours will add costs. So here are the key features of added costs: 1. Having an open corner steam shower (2-wall) vs a 3-walled shower will add costs because your 10mm frameless glass is a huge expense. That glass would be roughly $2500 or more. Vs about $1200 for just a straight, 2-panel, 60" glass door. 2. A contoured bench like that would be huge dollars. Vs just a plain, flat, tiled bench. Upgrade costs of ~$1500-2000 vs $400 for a typical bench. 3. Putting heating in the bench: Again high costs required for that. A heating kit alone is $1,000, then, added costs to bring it inside a waterproof enclosure like a steam shower. Many people think they want a heated tile floor/bench, but what happens when hot water hits the tile? It hea...

Image
Share This Email This Tweet This You need a another bathroom. Well, you  want another bathroom. Who doesn’t? After all, we’ve never heard someone say, “I have way too much bathroom space — I want to turn one into a closet.” But then again, there’s no guarantee you’ll recoup the money you spent when you sell. Typically, a new bathroom only recoups about half of the cost to build it. That’s what data from the “ 2015 Remodeling Impact Report ” from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® says. But that report also says in terms of satisfaction and enjoyment, a bathroom addition has a perfect “Joy Score” of 10. Hmmm, so is it wise or not? Here’s an infographic followed by by some facts and tips to help you decide: Rising Home Prices Could Mean a Higher ROI on a Bath Addition If home prices are steadily increasing (no peaks or valleys), you likely will be adding to your home’s value, which means you could recoup much or most of your cost. If your neighborhood’s home values are a bit flat, y...

Do you know? Is there a difference? I mean, I don’t want to be going around saying the wrong thing! It would be like all those years I was singing along to certain Aerosmith songs and didn’t know (or understand) the lyrics until one day it was pointed out to me that I had been singing them wrong. How embarrassing! And eye-opening! 😉 Yesterday I shared with you how I made my peace with burlap when I added this Burlap Vanity Skirt to our downstairs bathroom . And now I’m thrilled to be sharing with you the rest of this space. It’s come a long way! Wallpaper in a small, dark room like this can have such a dramatic impact. Unless it’s ugly. Then it’s dramatic for all the wrong reasons. This room...
