We need to add a shower to our bathtub

We love our garden tub in the main bath, but our boys only take showers. We are thinking of putting in a rain shower head. We will need to tile the walls around the tub. Maybe white subway tile with gray glass tile borders.
We need advice on what to do about the window which we love having the light, but it has metal around it (and the wood trim will have to go.) What do we replace it with?
And, since we don't want to cover up the tile, what kind of shower doors are recommended? I saw a lot of people are using a "shower shield" which is one solid piece of glass that is attached with hinges to the wall and is about 34 inches across. Our contractor is totally against that since he said water will splash out everywhere. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!
