DIY Project Parade and Half Bathroom before and after

As I was updating my home tour page, I noticed that I didn’t have a link to our half bathroom makeover. Why? Because I shared it on my very first blog and not here. So, time to show you the before and after transformation. One of my first projects. It evolves a little here and there.

First, let’s take a look at the before picture. Keep in mind that previous owners foreclosed on this old farmhouse. It sat neglected and we lived with this room stripped completely for over a year (that nasty carpet and fixtures were gone)! Thank goodness for my ability to see potential, otherwise this alone would have had us running the other direction!

BEFORE

The powder room sits in a hallway between the kitchen and living room. It’s near what used to be a front door and by the look of things, this hallway was open to a window with a small coat closet originally.

AFTER

It didn’t take much to get it functional again. Just a little DIY TLC, paint, tile, new faucet, new light and a new pedestal sink. Now, it’s pretty and functional and a 2nd bathroom option on our first floor.

See the hints of closet?

Water closet? I could have patched where the hinges were, but I really like that it’s history shows.

You can definitely tell that where the toilet sits used to be a closet.

But for now, this little space is functional and pretty.

We tiled the floor…good bye carpet! And a pedestal sink is the perfect option for a teeny tiny space.

The window gives the room a lot of light…(pardon the plastic – old house and it’s still March, after all).

The door and trim got a makeover too…

I added a built in shelf above the toilet…

Wall color is Benjamin Moore Smoke.

It really lightens up the space…

So, what do you think? I’m just so happy that I don’t have to be embarrassed when guests ask to use the bathroom!
