Mets' Conforto dislocates shoulder...Cowboys' Elliott could play Saturday... Bookies will take a bath if McGregor knocks out Mayweather | Ap
NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto has dislocated his left shoulder. The All-Star slugger was hurt in the fifth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks, collapsing and writhing in pain after swinging at a pitch. It's another blow to a team beset by injuries all season and now out of contention.
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Astros star Carlos Correa will begin a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Fresno. Correa has been out since July 17 after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. He is expected to play seven innings. Manager A.J. Hinch isn't sure how long he'll need to play in the minors before coming off the disabled list.
ATLANTA (AP) — Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano can rest up, a day after an early exit in Atlanta. He hit two doubles before leaving with tightness in his left hamstring. Cano is batting .277 with 19 homers and 78 RBIs. Seattle is off before opening a weekend series at Yankee Stadium.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott is likely to make his preseason debut against Oakland in what figures to be the 2016 NFL rushing leader's only game until after his suspension over a domestic violence incident. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett says he's leaning toward Elliott playing against the Raiders on Saturday night. And he said the plan would be similar to Elliott's only exhibition appearance as a rookie, when he had seven carries for 48 yards on 14 snaps at Seattle last year.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — If Conor McGregor manages to knock out Floyd Mayweather Jr. this weekend, Las Vegas bookmakers will suffer the biggest single event loss in the history of sports betting. McGregor fans are flooding casinos with small bets on the longshot mixed martial artist. He makes his pro boxing debut Saturday night against Mayweather, who is 49-0 and considered the best defensive fighter of his generation. About 95 percent of the bets are on McGregor. Mayweather bets are much bigger — an average of $4,000 per bet to McGregor's $125 — but that isn't enough to cover the casinos' potential losses.
