Soothe road-weary muscles with steam bath, serious shower - Review of Budget Host Melody Lane Motel, Raton, NM

We stayed here due entirely to all the good reviews about this motel. It was very very clean and well maintained. I can honestly say I did not see one chip in the paint, or a crack in any of the tile. It was amazing how much attention to detail the managment must give. They were nice when we checked in and they do have a frugal breakfast offering. Coffee, O.J., milk, cereals, fruit. Mostly what you would expect for a place with this price.

The location is very quiet as it is off the main roads, and is well lit. I had never experienced a steam bath, and they are somewhat of a novelty. They work great to warm up the shower before you get in and take the chill off in the winter, but it is too much steam once you start your bath. Easily remedied by turning it off once you start your bath.

We stayed in the rooms across the street, and they are a little different with a vaulted ceiling, and nice wood paneling on the ceiling.

My only complaint is a small one, but it was cold when we were there and it took a good hour for the heater to make the room comfortable. Once it was warm it stayed warm. A small complaint, but it would be nice if the owners would have some rooms with the heat already on at say 65 degrees or something. The heater was not noisy.

I would recommend anybody to try them out, as it is a great value, and very nice place. If we are ever up there again we will definitely try them out. I hate to think about the dump we stayed at in Trinidad, CO once. Should have drove another 20 miles and stayed here that time.
