BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A local student was attacked and robbed on Burke County High School premises last week.
On August 17, around noon, School Resource Deputy Boyd observed a student walk into the mall area of the school who had been physically assaulted. According to a report, the student advised that he had been attacked and robbed while in the boy’s bathroom by being punched and thrown to the ground, only to be punched again.
Based on the description of the attacker -- both physical and clothing -- the suspect was located by Deputy Boyd, and subsequently charged with two felonies: aggravated battery and robbery by force. The suspect was arrested and transported to YDC by the Sheriff’s Office.
As of right now, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division has met with the victim as well as his parents and has taken statements from others in the area, reviewing the school video. There were five other persons that entered/exited the bathroom during this time. Statements have been taken from these individuals, too.
Authorities say it appears to be an isolated incident, and no evidence points to it being gang related. Sheriff Williams personally met with the victim’s mother on Sunday and is closely monitoring the case. The school system is actively assisting and cooperating with the investigation as well.
The case is being reviewed by the Department of Juvenile Justice and the District Attorney’s Office.
